About

I didn’t want to go to therapy, so I decided to become an artist of sorts. Why would I need therapy, you ask? Stick around and you’ll soon find out.
I’m only half-kidding and I am not here to complain about my life.
In 2017 I wanted to create a health blog sharing what I was learning about the low-carb way of eating because it relieved me of many symptoms beyond weight loss. I’ve shared some things with friends over the years and felt I should have been sharing them on my blog so more people could also benefit.
But I didn’t. Well, I did a little, and then I would quit…over and over again.
So here we are in 2023 and I’ve decided to start again. This time with an artistic bent because I actually do have a formal education in the arts and feel less of an imposter. With the wellness blog, I had a really bad case of imposter syndrome even though I would just share my experience and was sure to tell everyone that I’m not a healthcare practitioner. And honestly, I did not want to go back to school to become one.
The new Brio Place is here to help us all find even a little more energy to do and create more of what we love.
Brio is About Energy
The word “brio” means vigor and vivacity of style, like singing with brio!
The thought, in the beginning, was to share the latest in the keto and low-carb way of eating so that it becomes a lifestyle and not one more round on the diet roller coaster. Eating low-carb gave me back some energy and that to me was a life with brio!
Over the years, and as I’ve learned more and more, I have begun to relax about EVERYONE needing to also adopt this way of eating. It may not be for everyone. I’ve been pretty uptight and opinionated about things that evolved in my understanding. I’ve stopped counting carbs and focus more today on getting as many of the most nutrient-dense foods onto my plate with as little fuss as possible.
Brio Place exists because I am a teacher at heart who loves learning and creating. The thing about art and design is that it teaches you to become an observer. And what I see too often is that many of us are needlessly suffering. Including myself!
I’ve also come to terms with this meat suit I inhabit; that I have a lot of trapped emotion in my body, and even more energy trapped in my brain. I started creating some habit trackers and journaling prompts to help with this. Recently, I’ve discovered a love of watercolor, doodles like Zentangles, and neurographic art. It has been eye-opening just how helpful it has been to release the emotion onto paint and paper.
I hope you will benefit from the content herein! I’ll still be sharing my love of nutrition and all the things that are helping me be as healthy as possible. AND, I’ll be sharing some things that will hopefully inspire you to be more creative and healthy too!
2023
I’m currently teaching interior design in a Dallas high school but for 6 years before I became a teacher I was an interior designer. My design experience is in multi-family, healthcare, and corporate office.
As I write this, my 2023 summer break is coming to an end. Our school will be moving into a new campus this year and I am actually very excited to go back even though summer break is freaking awesome and there will be much work waiting for me, including unpacking my classroom into two spaces! If you care to follow any of this you can do so on Instagram, @brioplace.
